It was more the knock knock, and it shook me from a newspaper article I read. I have ignored I already knew that this was one of the children, who are kicking in my door during recess and lunch when they freely roam the school grounds. My room was on the second floor balcony of one of the many bungalows, located on the southern edge of the campus. These same children is making a stir next to my door for weeks as I had in vain tried to shoo them away with the appeals process, as well as threats. My requests to the main Office for assistance has always remained unanswered.
But this time I decided to act quickly. I race and found one of the students was standing there laughing at me. I was surprised to see it, because they are typically in flight when the door flies open. This young lady was quite blatant; When I asked her name she smirked and started walking away. That's when I reached for it, half heartedly. I knew I couldn't hold on to it to get the info, but I have felt disrespect if I did nothing. So I reached out with my hand to show that means business, but without the intention of grabbing her. My hand touched her shoulder. She continued to walk down the stairs and disappeared. I didn't think anything of it until several hours later when the main walked into my room in the middle of a lesson and told me to take my stuff and go over the head of its Bureau; the police wanted to talk to me.
I spent an hour going back and forth with two officers about who did what and when. They told me the student claimed I beat her and that my actions could be considered child abuse. They all were intimidated. I was treated as if I was guilty until proven innocent. They repeated the term "brutal" and even mentioned, when I asked how serious the allegations were. They eventually left the room, and I ended up on the day talking with my Union Rep. She told me that they can not arrest me for what happened; their intimidation was only a tactic. I wondered if the police gave a student the same treatment I received.
The next day I was told to collect their belongings from the audience, and return all keys to the administrator. They put me on administrative leave; I was told to show up at the District Office in Van Nuys, where I spend my days in a room filled with other teachers who were in the same boat.
Fast action area and clearly abstruse way, they deal with it was a shock for me. I never thought that a minor run-in with the student may lead to punitive measures. There are hundreds of other "displaced", teachers sat on the day in the so-called rubber rooms, many of which do not even know the charges against them.
There's a witch hunt going on right now, and judge and jury has name and address-John Deasy, Superintendent of schools, LAUSD. This man was intent on getting rid of school teachers for the past two years after becoming a Superintendent. He initiated the stalinesque course of action, and it's ruining the lives of good teachers as well as students left dangling in his research and school work when we you ripped from class that way.
The area has plenty of work on their hands, improving academics and student achievement; they should stop the charade to hide behind the abstract goals of student safety to thin ranks of teachers for their own purposes.
Get rid of pedophiles, not accredited teachers who just do their job.
